3 Tips For Cutting The Cable Cord

Posted on: 30 May 2016

If you are looking for more wiggle room in your budget, cutting some of your expenses could save you and your family some money each month. For many families, cutting expenses means getting rid of cable. Cutting the cable cord is easier than you might think. Here are some tips to use to keep watching the shows you love while eliminating your cable bill.

Improve Your Internet Speeds

Once you end the relationship with the cable company, you will have to rely on your internet service provider, or ISP, to pick up the slack. You can stream many of the shows and movies you currently watch without paying the same fees that you did with cable. However, if your Internet speeds are not up to snuff, you could have a horrible experience.

Ideally, your speeds should be 10Mbps to 25Mbps to stream videos. This will allow you to watch videos on more than just one computer or television. If you are unsure whether or not your speeds are up to the challenge, you can run a test online. Your ISP might even offer an option to test from its site.

If the speed you have is not enough, talk to your ISP about improving it. The small price increase will most likely be far less than you pay for cable.

Install a Digital Media Player

Digital media players, or streaming devices, allow you to play video from another source on your television. In most instances, you only have to download an app on a mobile phone or tablet and plug in the player into a port on your television.

There are many apps that offer free viewing of shows and movies that come as a perk of buying the players. You can also sign up for standalone subscription services from various networks to use with the players. Networks, such as HBO and Showtime, offer monthly plans that allow customers to access their current programming.

Invest in an HDMI Cable

A High Definition Multimedia Interface cable, or HDMI, connects your computer to your television. Any video that you are viewing online can be cast to your television and the picture and sound are not distorted.

An HDMI cable might be one of the most cost-effective methods of streaming video on your television. Before purchasing your cable, pay close attention to the distance of your television from your computer. The cable will need to be long enough to go the distance.

Stay Connected No Matter Where You Are

My name is Julie Matthews and I used to have a horrible problem. I had friends who i wanted to keep in touch with, but my life has become incredibly busy. I tried to stay in touch with my friends through a social media platform, but it never felt the same and I still felt like I wasn't connecting like I used to. Then, I began wondering if the social media platform was actually the problem. I began doing research and experimented with various apps, websites and other tools and I realized that I was right. With the right streaming services, voice chat and various other tools, I now feel connected. I don't want the same thing to happen to someone else, so I decided to start a tech blog.
